The UK government is refusing to come clean about how it helped a Russian warlord get around its own sanctions to launch a targeted legal attack on a leading British journalist.

After we broke the story, Treasury minister James Cartlidge said there would be a review into how the Treasury's Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation issued special licences in 2021 to let Yevgeny Prigozhin circumvent sanctions to launch an aggressive legal case against journalist Eliot Higgins. And the government has announced new rules on how these decisions will be made in future.

But almost three months on, the government is still refusing to answer key questions about the Prigozhin case:

  • Exactly what happened and how?
  • What was the decision-making framework or guidance to ministers?
  • How exactly were ministers involved?

Will you please email your MP now asking them to tell the government it must tell the truth about what happened? This kind of contact from a constituent can be very effective.
