Investigate false hydrogen claims by the gas industry

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned to learn that British Gas advisers have been misleading customers with false promises, claiming that hydrogen fuel will be rolled out across the UK and that boilers sold now are capable of burning hydrogen instead of gas – neither of which is yet established.

You have already warned that the terms “hydrogen-ready” or “hydrogen-blend-ready” could mislead consumers. Yet both are being used by British Gas and others. People are facing very difficult decisions about heating bills and the climate crisis.

It is vital that they are given accurate information – and not misled about the products they are being sold.

We therefore demand that you open an investigation into “hydrogen greenwashing” by the gas industry – and take firm action when people are being misled.
