The Met: Investigate the Downing Street parties

To:
Cressida Dick, Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis

We, the undersigned, call on the Metropolitan Police to investigate whether laws were broken at parties which took place in Downing Street when the country was on lockdown to slow the spread of Covid-19.

Previously, the Met has said it will not investigate “based on the absence of evidence”. Now there is evidence aplenty: photos, emails and an admission by Boris Johnson to parliament that he attended a social event, contrary to lockdown regulations, in May 2020.

Investigate now, before any further evidence can be destroyed. A failure to investigate would sully the reputation of the Met and call into question its independence.
